A JAPANESE GARDEN IN A PRIVATE HOUSE

Space and size strengthen each other as an extension of the house, where "nature", light, rhythm, art, science and technology converge...

Every so often, the project of a garden is a defiance of the traditional idea of garden, and this is what happens in this situation. A simple gate leads to a compact garden that is invisible from the outside.

The visitor is surprised when takes a stone path that arrives in a flower-bed with black gravel, in which there's a bowl of stone with a ladle of bamboo. The bowl, tsukubai, is used by the guests to wash one's hands and to rinse one’s mouth as a symbolic purification; the bowl is lower to make the guests bend as a sign of humility.

The garden is connected to the building by the ritual way that is symbol of arrival in a special place.

The guest sees a peaceful space and finds many illusions, walking on the stone path at right angles; it's obvious that the designer wanted to consider the garden, with a careful placing of trees and shrub that some of them are trimmed and drawn (Ilex Crenata Macrobonsai), as a natural space in which the trees and the stones, that are surrounded by a surface of white stones, are the symbol of purity of spirit that is far from contaminations of the modern world...
